About Mr. Mittens

Mr. Mittens is a Belgian-Australian premium knitwear brand. The Antwerp Stephanie Caulier moves to Australia, where she settles down but where starting a new business is starting to itch. After a visit to New York where she spontaneously ends up in a knitting cafe, this brings back her childhood memories of her love for knitting. Once back in Australia, the idea of starting her own knitwear label starts to take shape. The name Mr. Mittens stems from her love for an old childhood story, where the main character is a mischievous cat named Mr. Mittens.

The first collection

Stephanie starts designing a limited range of unique hand knitted accessories and garments made from 100% wool. Without any formal training, she takes on this challenge and distinguishes herself through the use of chunky knitting and the innovative knitting technique called the purl stitch. This purl stitch is, now 10 years later, the signature of Mr. Mittens.

Sustainable entrepreneurship

Caulier forgoes mass production for her collections and instead relies on the expertise and talent of knitters in local workshops. Here the garments are knitted by hand using ancient knitting techniques. Mr. Mittens stands for durable and high-quality knitting made of 100% wool or 100% fine cotton. The brand is praised for its commitment to sustainable entrepreneurship and its timeless aesthetic.
